It's January and time to get a new year started! Already NBTA is filling up the schedule with players working out and getting ready for school ball to start. Most schools will start their programs in mid-February so, if you plan on trying out for you middle or high school team...you better get some reps in!

For those 14 and under and wanting to play some good old recreational baseball, the NBTA sponsored TN Chiefs are a WNSL team, playing other Babe Ruth leagues in the area. Sign ups are now on line at wnsl.org.

NBTA's Select 16U baseball team is looking for a couple of more pitchers. If you are interested in trying out, call us!

For the past 5 years I have been the head coach at East Tennessee State University. During that time I was blessed to coach, recruit, and compete against some of the best players in the nation.

It is my desire to share the knowledge I have with committed players who have a dream to play at the college level. Personally, I believe there are many talented players who get over-looked in the recruiting process because they are unaware of the important factors that set them apart as an elite player. I am passionate about the influence of a coach and that is why I am directing this college prep training program. I want to use the relationships I have in the coaching realm along with my knowledge in all facets of the game to help the players I work with reach their goals. Snow is gone...and tryouts are happening with many of the middle and high schools these next few weeks. We hope it goes well for each of you and hope that you make the team! Keep focused and even if you don't make it this year there are more years to come and a lot more baseball!

As much as one can get discouraged when we don't "make it" please realize that sometimes it can be a huge blessing. It can give you time to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually, and become a much better player when it becomes "your time" to play.

It's hard...but life keeps going and if you didn't make the team we hope you use this next year to build your talents up and show yourself, as well as others, that you are a player to be reckoned with!

WNSL's Nashville Vols

It's the first Sunday of 2010 and the Nashville Vols are here hitting and throwing and getting ready for Spring baseball! It's good to see the excitement of the players knowing that the season has begun!

I'm looking forward to seeing what the Vols do this year! A great team that has some great dedicated players with coaches who are willing to work and give their team plenty of practice time. As much as I love reading up on all the advice given, we sometimes get confused when one person disagrees with another on what is the best method on developing as a ball player. Pitching has been the hardest thing to grasp! We try to stay up on things but the research doctors continually find out some things are just not that good to do to keep a strong arm and reduce injury. Sadly, over the years I have seen too many kids blow their chances of playing ball because of bad mechanics and/or doing exercises or drills that they shouldn't be doing at their particular age.

Rick Peterson, former pitching coach with the A's, Blue Jays, White Sox, Mets, who has worked with some of today’s most successful athletes including Michael Jordan, Barry Zito, Tim Hudson, Pedro Martinez, Johan Santana, Tom Glavine, Roger Clemens, Frank Thomas, Jim Abbott, Jason Giambi, and many others, has developed an on-line pitching program (age specific) with a list of other professionals, that works to help build you up in all areas you need to have as great pitcher. As much fun and knowledge we gain from clinics and camps, personal training is still the most productive way to learn and grow in your sport. Here in Nashville, we are proud to have some of the best trainers in baseball and fast-pitch softball around! Are they making a difference?

Just ask our students and their parents! I think I can safely say that they would say "Yes"! Do we know all there is to know about training or about baseball...absolutely not! But, I can tell you that there is hardly a day that goes by that we are not looking to improve our knowledge and give our clients the best and most up to date information to help them become successful. Technology changes daily and new information is found to help people accomplish in their desires of becoming the best at their game. The day we quit trying to learn...is the day NBTA will close. And I hope that never happens.

When I was 9 years old we were living in Seoul, Korea. I had broken my femur bone and was laid up in traction, then in a body cast for 4 months. Needless to say, when the cast came off it took about a year for my limp to go away. My father was able to sign me up to play baseball at the Army base. We were missionaries and usually not allowed to join in on programs with the Army.

I had been out of my cast for only a month and needless to say, I hobbled everywhere on my crutches, but somehow, I managed to make the practices and eventually I won the short stop position. Through the whole season, I was not capable of playing my best baseball, but my father kept telling me to "never give up! keep working hard and do your best!"

I have no idea if I was a decent player that year, but at the end of the season I was selected for one of the All-Star teams. If I remember right, we had one All-Star game and I was one of the kids on the bench. Near the end of the game the coach put me in as a pinch hitter. All I remember is that I hit the ball and started running as fast as I could to first. Right before I made it, I tripped and fell flat on my face before I reached the bag. I could hear everyone screaming and I could hear my dad's voice (whether in my head or out loud I don't know) saying "get up! you can make it!" Somehow I did make it to first before the throw. I remember it to be one of the best days of my life. Everyone seemed to be proud of me...even though looking back now, I'm sure it wasn't a pretty moment! But that moment gave me confidence that I could do anything if I just put my mind and heart into it and "Never give up!"

Encourage your kids. This is what their dreams are made of. To live and love and to make their parents proud.

Little League World Series

As usually, I am loving the season where we are able to watch the LL World Series, Ripken World Series, and the World Series of all the other leagues! Hmmm...so, who is truly honored to be the winner of the World Series?! Who cares?! Amazing baseball! It's great to see this game is still loved by millions around the world!

So who saw Katie Reyes knock in 4 runs, get the winning RBI, and catch the last out of the game against Germany? Awesome! We have a few young ladies here playing baseball and I have to admit...they are some of our best students. They work hard and obviously have the talent to play the game. Way to go Katie!

Last Little League games will be played this Sunday starting at 11 AM (Central Time). I'm looking for California and Mexico to be in the final game and have to lean for my old homestead...California! I guess we'll find out Sunday.

It's summer time! That means for you who are not playing summer ball...to get prepared for Fall Ball! Our trainers are ready and waiting to prepare you and get you focused. Check out our "Summer Specials" link!

We established NBTA in 2004. It's been great working with so many players from Nashville and the surrounding counties and states like Alabama, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois...even players from far away like Russia, Japan, Puerto Rico, Mexico and the UK!

One thing we try to communicate is that baseball and softball is a game that needs constant practice. When you're a player that plays other sports like basketball, football, golf, etc., you still need to practice your mechanics throughout the year. Muscle memory is needed to keep your swing or form in pitching. You lose so much when you take too much time off! We encourage you to come every couple of weeks to remind your body and muscles what to do. This will keep you from having to start over next spring or even fall should you take the next couple of months off.

Keep swinging...keep pitching...keep working! We want to see Nashville become the city people talk about when they discuss where the "best ball players in the country" come from!

Most of you know that my family are huge Dodger fans. We loved it when they signed Manny and hoped that once he came to play for LA he would play there a long time.

When everyone was getting caught for steriod use, Manny's name just didn't seem to be in the mix. It looked like he was clean and just playing baseball. But...for whatever reason Manny is taking this stuff, he should know better and the Dodgers should have known that sooner or later he would get caught. Sadly, I think that it's such a huge problem in all sports, that we are being fed a few folks at a time to make it look like that they are doing their job in controlling steriod use.

So...it's all sad. I don't think there's a team out there who doesn't know that it will be one of their players next. I do hope that in a few years, we'll be able to get back to real baseball players who work hard and keep clean. But, I'm not sure that will happen unless MLB really controls this by banning all players for life when they get caught. Which would really be horrible.

Sorry about the rain folks! It really makes it hard to play games and I know it's tough to get in some practice time. Well, some coaches are on top of things and we appreciate them taken advantage of our Sunday Team day!

We book 1 hour, 1 1/2 hour, and 2 hour sessions on Sundays for teams. You get the whole facility so, you can get a lot of work done! Two to three pitching machines, pitching mounds, and a hitting tee cage makes your time here worth it. The cost is unbeatable for what you get...in fact, most ask two or three times to make sure they heard right!

Call early in the week...times go fast!

We love baseball. We love the fact that it's a team sport, but, it also comes down to a one on one battle. A battle against skills and mental preparation. We can teach the mechanics of the game but how do we teach someone how to prepare themselves mentally?

Of course, we look for ways to encourage hitters by showing them that no matter how fast we pitch to them...they can hit the ball if they are mentally in the game. We look for ways to show pitchers that no matter how fast they pitch or even how slow they pitch...they can win the battle by learning the strategy of how they view their opponent. Finding their weaknesses and delivering pitches that keeps them off their game.

Our job is to teach mechanics and to encourage our players to prepare themselves mentally. But most of all, it's to teach them that baseball is a lot like life. It's not just a game...sometimes you succeed and sometimes you fail...BUT, each time you play you learn more about yourself and the world around you. You learn that sometimes you get bad calls. Sometimes you get hurt. Sometimes you make errors. Sometimes others make the errors. Sometimes...you get the winning hit or strikeout the last batter to win. Sometimes you get the game ball and sometimes you don't. But whatever happens...you can learn and grow from the experience.

It's such a great game! You never know who is going to show up prepared to win the game. That's what makes it so desirable to play. That's what makes it so desirable for us to teach others how to play. Because we all know, It's not just a game...

This week of April 2004, 5 years ago, NBTA opened it's doors in the Bellevue Center Mall. There was no plan or idea of what we were going to do, just a desire to have an indoor batting cage that would be open to the public year round...and a place where I could work with my son year 'round to help him achieve his dream of playing college ball.

Right before we opened our doors a guy shows up asking if I wanted a trainer to help with our business. "Hmmm. okay. Do you have any credentials?" That's when former MLB pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, Keith Brown showed me his World Series ring. "Yeah...I guess you qualify!" So a week before we opened, we turned from a batting cage idea to a training facility!

Within a few short months we realized we had more clients than we could deal with...so, a move was made after 9 months from a 3,000 sq. ft, area to a 13,000 sq. ft. area! Adding space and trainers and trying different things like a pro-shop, clinics, making uniforms, to...whatever we thought might be needed for the community. It was a work in progress and an education on what was really needed and what was really NOT needed!

After the Bellevue Mall closed in May of 2008, NBTA made the move to our new location here on Allied Drive. A much more centralized location, just enough space to really do what we know we do best...train players in baseball and fast-pitch softball! Gone are the uniforms and programs that didn't work, but we kept a specialized pro-shop with quality and cost-effective merchandise. We have also added some great new trainers and have chosen to focus our efforts in creating great ball players. It's that old saying that has finally stuck...keep it simple!

Who knows how much longer NBTA will be around...but for now, we are doing our best to be the best. Our staff challenges each other to continue their own education to pass on new ways to help ourselves become better trainers and give our clients the knowledge and skills to become the players they desire to be.

Thank you to all of you for supporting us and giving us a great job to come to everyday! We love this game and we love knowing you and becoming a part of your lives. We have been blessed to see so many kids turn into young adults and succeed at playing the game. Having many go off to college and play has really been a blessing to know that we were able to help in a small way.

Nashville Sounds get pounded by the Redhawks

NBTA's favorite player Casey Benjamin, and the Oklahoma City Redhawks run over the Nashville Sounds last night with a 17 to 3 win! Check out the article . Casey hit a homer that helped continue the spark that led to a Redhawks 12 inning run in the 5th inning.

As most of you know, Casey was training many players here at NBTA over the winter before joining the Texas Rangers in Arizona for spring training. I was pleased over the past few days to see some of Casey's clients show up at the game to cheer him on! Let's hope he decides to come back to Nashville in the off season and is able to continue working with some of Nashville's up and coming players! Follow Casey by checking out the Redhawks on line!

Casey Benjamin whom many of you trained with this past winter here at NBTA, has been in spring training in Arizona. The MLB network was showing a game between the Rangers and the Angels today...and there was Casey playing short stop!

Most of you are probably looking at the Nashville Sounds schedule to see when Casey will be in town, but I thought I might post it now so you can plan ahead to take in a game or two when he is here with the Triple A Oklahoma City Redhawks.

Opening day for the Sounds is April 9th...but to see Casey and the Redhawks you may want to get tickets for April 13th through the 16th. Four days of great baseball with one of your favorites playing! I'm hoping Casey will stop by to see us here at NBTA and if he does plan on it...I'll hopefully be able to let you know!

Japan - World Baseball Classic 2009

Japan beats Korea 5 to 3 in extra innings! These two teams have proven to the world that they know how to play baseball! I was rooting for the USA and Korea to be in the finals...since I was born and raised in Korea and have lived here in the US for many years.

It's sad the the USA whose game IS Baseball...has not been able to win the World Baseball Classic. Korea and Japan have only had the game for 30 years or so and they rule! What has happened to the game of baseball in America?

To me it is a simple thing to understand. We have lost the very thing this game is made up of. Great defense, offense, and strategy! It's amazing to watch the east play baseball. They use the players as a team. They took the history of baseball and have used it to understand that a team is comprised of great players in every aspect of the game. It's not just about great pitching and home runs. These days...anyone can hit 100 mph fast balls...you have to play the game!

I see it in every level of play from Little League to College to the Pros...put in the big guy that can hit a home run (sometimes) and let the guy that throws hard...throw! We forget the guy on the bench that usually puts the ball in play. We forget the guy that can actually catch a ball...because we need a slugger in the line up who can't catch a ball! Korea and Japan has little slugging potential. They have good pitching but nothing that would seem extraordinary. What they have is great defense, great offense, and they play the game with all their players doing their job.

Wake up America! It's time to get back in the game.

Good afternoon, Mark.

I just wanted to update you on Brandon & his MLK high school JV baseball.

While his team isn't fairing too well, Brandon is performing better than I expected. In his first game a couple of weeks ago against Overton he was 1-2, a groundout & a liner to LF, and had an outfield assist! He threw out a runner from LF, at 3rd base, who was trying make it first to third on a base hit to Left. Not bad for his first "real" game in 3 years!

He continues to make contact at the plate. He rarely strikes out. Ryan (Ryan Bear is an NBTA Trainer) has done a wonderful job working on Brandon's mechanics, developing his skills, and instilling a confidence in Brandon that will benefit him in the years to come-in many aspects of his life, not just baseball.

We continue to work on his throwing mechanics, which is still a work in progress. But he is showing much improvement in that area as well.

I want to express my thanks to you, Mark, and especially to Ryan Bear, for his help with Brandon. The progress he's made in a very short period of time borders on amazing!! While Brandon certainly has ability, Ryan's work with him has significantly enhanced that ability!! Should Brandon need more training, we will return to NBTA to work with Ryan & your staff, to further develop Brandon's talents.

I am happy to recommend NBTA to other parents & players!

Nashville Sounds New Owners!

MFP Baseball is the official owner of the Nashville Sounds Class AAA baseball franchise today following approvals of a purchase agreement by the Pacific Coast League and Minor League Baseball, and review by Major League Baseball.

MFP Baseball partners Masahiro Honzawa, Steve Posner, and Frank Ward have been seeking this final approval since reaching an agreement to purchase the team in October. The leagues’ approvals hinged on an extensive application and background check process.

“We are looking forward to the 2009 season as the new owners of this great franchise,” Ward said of the approval. “Nashville has a great baseball tradition, and our goal as owners of the team is to continue that tradition and gain the support of our loyal fans and the business community. I am so thankful for the change! It had seem that the previous owners had just lost site of the Sounds fans and our community. I'm sure there was more to the story...having to deal with government and all...but, maybe having new owners we will see a rise in support for the Nashville Sounds. I love going to their games and I do love the old stadium and the vibe it gives off. Already there are big changes to make it more comfortable. Can't wait for the season to start!

Steriods have almost taken over the game of baseball to the point that many don't even want to watch or participate in any way with MLB. I am saddened by the stupidity of the players who thought they could get away with taken steriods, but at the same time, I understand their need to want to be the best at their profession.

A-Rod's excuse and the way he presented it...was sad. It showed that he was still trying to cover up and not tell the truth. But that goes for all the players...just tell the truth and get it over with!

MLB needs to set a standard that if you get caught taking anything illegal to enhance your body/playing ability, you need to be suspended from baseball for at least a season if not two or three...that would stop these players and would probably bring about reasonable salaries for players and give up and coming players a much better chance of making it to the "Game".

Thankfully, for the past few years a group of players who haven't been drugging to make it are slowly taking over, and that's why it's so important we support our minor league and independent pro teams around this country.

Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Don Drysdale, Roberto Clemente, Sandy Koufax, Ozzie Smith, Yogi Berra, Jackie Robinson...these guys and so many more who played this game with their heart and soul...that's what this game is about.

Friday, February 6th is the first game of the season for Tennessee Temple University. So, since my son is on their team...I figured it was right that I be there! Don't worry...NBTA will open at 10am Saturday. We have a full schedule and it looks like Sunday is filled up with teams.

Somehow I have to figure out how I can get to a few more of my son's games. After all...we started NBTA to help get TC to college, as well as, many more players from the Nashville area! I just wish I had the time now to go around to all the colleges and watch all the great players that we have been blessed to work with.

Akadema - Albin - Mattingly

The Akadema Xtension bat is an incredible balanced bat! A lot of pop and seems to be a favorite for many players. NBTA also carries Akadema baseball gloves and after 5 years...they are still our favorite gloves.

Mattingly Baseball has created the only V-Grip bat available. It lays right in your fingers and feels great! These bats have been flying out the door! Three metal bat models to choose.

Albin truly has a "Less sting - More Swing" bat. Hitters expect a big ping sound coming from their bats and when you hit with an Albin it sounds like a wood bat! Which personally...I LOVE THAT SOUND! It's taking a bit more time for players to spend their money on a no-ping bat, but for those who have already, they know its making a difference in their swing and they know the ball pops off their bat like a rocket. Plus...they are loving it when they get jammed and their hands don't hurt and sting like before!

Last night, WNSL and Nashville RBI hosted a program including dinner with a question and answer time with some great successful Tennesseans like David Price of Tampa Bay Rays (top picture with Scott Tygard) and Steve Liddel, bench coach of the Minnesota Twins (bottom picture with NBTA trainer Ryan Bear of the Marlins and his fiance). Also on the panel were Coach Tim Corbin of Vanderbilt, R.A. Dickey, Coach Forehand of Lipscomb, Ben Zorbrist, Michael Fisher and MLB umpire Merriweather...I was late due to our training schedule and heard that Tim McGraw opened up the night. Needless to say, I forgot my camera and only ended up getting these 2 pictures when the evening ended. I think I need a new phone with a better camera!

2009 is here and we hope and pray that this year will be the best ever for you!

2008 brought NBTA to a new location and we are loving it. Hopefully, you are too! This year we have added many more trainers, a new website, a new vision with Nashville RBI involved, and a desire to still become the best training facility in the south! We have been blessed with players from as far away as Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky to come and work with us. We hope to continue in a way that will be profitable for all to continue to come!

We had the privilege of witnessing Angie Helseth receive her Bachelor of Arts and Science In Exercise Science Degree from Belmont University! Angie's minor was in Health and Nutrition. What a great accomplishment!

We have been blessed to have Angie join us at NBTA as a trainer for Fast-Pitch Softball and one who also does Speed and Strength training. Those who have been taking lessons from Angie have let me know that she is the best there is...and as I watch her train, I would have to agree!

Congratulations Angie! We love you and thank you for letting us be a part of your life.

Most of you know that our family are Dodger fans. I am looking forward to the Dodgers going all the way this year! It would be amazing to see Joe Torre take this team in his first year on the West Coast to the World Series. Of course, we have to give a lot of credit to Manny for coming in and bringing a new attitude to the club house. You can tell he is enjoying the game again and it's rubbing off on all the players. I've never been a Rays fan but with the addition of hometown favorite David Price being added to their roster, how can I not be a fan!

David Price made his debut start last night and held a no-hitter for 5 innings. Yes, a few walks and a little shaky at times, but dang...can he pitch or what?!

Rays won, but when they pulled Price it was a tied ball game. Guess he doesn't get the win, but at least he doesn't have a loss.

It's going to be great to see David grow and develop into probably one of the greatest pitchers of all time...barring no injuries. He's got the stuff only dreams are made of.

So I wonder if Coach Tim Corbin (Vanderbilt) was invited to the game? I hope he was able to make it. Corbin talked Price into not quitting baseball when he was a freshman and we all are thankful for that!

A Baseball Story

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves children with learning disabilities, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After

extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question:

'When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection.

Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do.

Where is the natural order of things in my son?'

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. 'I believe that when a child like Shay, who was mentally and physically disabled comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.' Then he told the following story:

Shay and I had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, 'Do you think they'll let me play?' I knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but as a father I also understood that if my son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

I approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, 'We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning.'

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt. I watched with a small tear in my eye and warmth in my heart. The boys saw my joy at my son being accepted.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three.

In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning

from ear to ear as I waved to him from the stands. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again.

Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat. At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game?

Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact.

The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

The game would now be over.

The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman.

Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game. Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates.

Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling,

'Shay, run to first!

Run to first!'

Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base.

He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, 'Run to second, run to second!'

Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base.

By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball. The smallest guy on their team now had his first chance to be the hero for his team.

He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head.

Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home. All were screaming, 'Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay'.

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, 'Run to third!

Shay, run to third!

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, 'Shay, run home! Run home!'

Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team. 'That day', said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face,> 'the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world'.

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making me so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

Rod is a friend, lives here and coached many years in the Franklin area. This is not a book to teach you how to run practices...it's how to manage a team and make it a successful program.

I met with Coach Tim Corbin a couple of weeks ago and among many topics we did talk about the book. He has endorsed it and the one thing they left off the book cover was the final quote of Coach Corbin's words which were; "...I thought this book was awesome!"

Twenty bucks gives you a great book of information and a CD that will help you manage your team.

Coach Angie and Ellie

There are some that train and then there are some that TRAIN!
Making the long trek from New Johnsonville, Ellie comes for an hour
work out with Coach Angie as often as they can get down to Nashville.
We first met Ellie well over a year ago and now at 10 years old,
she is playing at a level well above her age. She loves this game and it shows every time she walks in the door. Ellie is here to improve her game and if it's one thing we want to do here at NBTA, it's to encourage the players that hard work will pay off and judging from the way Ellie plays now from when she first came in...it really is paying off! Just ask her teammates.
Excellent control of her bat, a great arm as a catcher and third baseman, Ellie
can move to any position and be extremely effective.
We look forward to a great many years of Ellie playing the game she loves.

The LA Dodgers

I just wanted to point out that my LA Dodgers are really playing well! A quick thank-you to Boston for letting Manny go and a huge thank-you to New York for really being nuts and letting Joe Torre and his great staff (like hitting coach Don Mattingly) go! What were these teams thinking....the Boston - New York reign is ending!

I can't keep enough Mattingly Bats in the store! I order and they just fly out the door. If you haven't tested these bats yet...you'd better get in and check them out!

Cal Ripken Jr & Harold Reynolds

Over the years I have been blessed to work and meet some great people. This past year I was invited to attend the MLB winter meeting and found myself talking with Cal Ripken Jr, Harold Reynolds, John Smoltz, and quite a few other players including Vanderbilt star and 1st round draft pick David Price. Sadly, no one took my picture with all those I met, but I did get these two pictures! Ex-pro player Larry Scannell who has created the SmartKage (coming to NBTA one day!) was the one who invited me to this great event.
So now you know...these stars finally got to meet me!

Notice the bat up and over! Hips turned and that front leg straight! One of my favorite players continues to amaze me. I talk and show...he listens and does! His dad works him hard! Not too hard...I love it when they really want to learn and do the best they can. This is what makes this job so grand.

USA (Hawaii) wins the 2008 World Series

Due to incredible defense and powerful offense, Hawaii won it all. This team was a complete joy to watch this year. Their focus and tenacity was just amazing. I watched them come from behind to win more than once in the last inning of the tournament games. These kids never gave up!

The kids these days are getting the personal training to make it to this level. That's one reason why we do what we do...to get them as far as they want to take their game! It excites me to see year after year, the development of players and the development of the game, not only baseball, but the fast-pitch softball is incredible!

One thing I noticed this year was how many kids were using Akadema gloves! As you know, we have been selling their product since we've been open. You can't watch a MLB game now without seeing a pro using their product, college players, and now Little League has come around! I love that! When we opened up 4 years ago, I searched for a product that was well made and the cost would be reasonable. Akadema fit the bill. What a great product.
